BDA National League Update 2017

League update 2017

The first League event, Stockton, is just over two months away. It is a regatta course and will feature both long and short course racing, and subject to time and weather a long 2km race.

Stockton is one of our best courses, has excellent facilities and good value accommodation nearby (Premier Inn) too.

We have seven league events planned. All League events do count for points. The League will consist of both Super 12 racing and full boat (S20) racing. A Shadow Mixed League will also operate, minimum of eight female paddlers.

This season we will also be trialling a S12 Open format in response to paddler feedback during last season. We hope this will assist teams with development and participation. We have also made it affordable, so if you are in the main draw, and entering a Ladies team, it will cost just extra £15 to enter a S12 open team. See below for more details.

Hopefully we can continue the growth in the League and provide more opportunities for racing, and also new opportunities for paddlers, helms, drummers and coaches too.

League Structure

Super12 Ladies

All female crews only, discretion granted to BCS or mobility impaired teams for helms only. The cost of the Ladies League will be kept the same as last year. (£30)

Super12 Open – in response to your feedback
In response to feedback to better cater for new, charity, scratch and novice crews, plus men who want to paddle more.

It will also be of benefit to clubs with too few or too many paddlers for a single boat.
If a BDA registered team is entering the main draw the cost will be £30.

If the team is also entering a Ladies team at the event the cost will be reduced to £15. This means it will be a combined entry fee of £45 for both a Ladies S12 and Open S12 entry.

If the BDA team is not entering the main race draw the cost will be £75.

Super12 Junior

Same conditions as per last season, no race entry fees. Medals will be provided by the BDA for juniors only.

Charity scratch crews – rebranded to Local Champions Cup or Trophy and made S12
Charity/scratch crews comp to be rebranded to local "Champions Cup or Trophy" and be S12 only, two heats and final.

The reason for the change is to make it easier to recruit and train local teams for events, providing a simple fun format. Race fees will remain the same.

Late entries – suggested – in response to your feedback at Congress
All entry forms are due two weeks before an event, entries late by up to one week will incur a £20 fine, entries late by over a week may not be included and if included will incur a £50 fine.

We will not charge withdrawal fees unless they are made on the race day. Late entry fines will be administered by the BDA Secretary. Payment for all league events is preferred before race day.

League Points
If you have less than 16 paddlers from your team in a full 20 person boat you will not get full points.

If you have less than 10 paddlers from your team in a full 12 person boat you will not get full points.

All paddlers must have valid BDA membership.

Disputes over points will only be considered within 14 days of the results being posted on the BDA website. The decision of Neil Pickles who administers League points is final.

Dressing of Boats – feedback from race officials
All boats must be properly numbered, and all teams must carry a complete set of numbers (1-4) and a means to attach these to their boat, or a pool boat.
Boats not displaying their correct number will be given a time penalty.

Late to Start – feedback from race officials
Boats are expected to be at the start line before the race start time (3 minutes), again time penalties are likely to be given without a prior warning for boats that are not on time.
