Great River Race [18/09/06] |

Saturday, 16th September 2006 saw the annual Great River Race down the River Thames - 22 miles from Ham in Richmond down to the Cutty Sark at Greenwich. This year saw a multitude of dragon boat entries from the complete novice, including a team from Capital Radio to our experienced Masters International. Other crews recognised from the National League included Thames Taniwhas, Henley Dragons, ExeCalibre and WAM Dragons/Bristol Empire. All teams put in staggering performances and finished the race around the 2.5 hour mark. Masters International were on for a sure win of the race, but an unexpected freak wash from a large boat around Tower Bridge caused their boat to sink. This then left the path open for The Brotherhood who were the first dragon boat over the line in a time of 2:24:08. Well done also to the Royal Wa'hines in the Hawaiian outrigger, again full of a lot of familiar faces. |

Risk Assessments Required [15/09/06] |

Reminder - Under the BDA Water Safety Policy it is a requirement that Risk Assessments are carried out for all training venues. This is also a requirement of the BDA Insurance. |

Dates for 2007 [15/09/06] |

The 2007 National Cup will be held at NWSC on the weekend of 6th/7th October 2007.The final League event will be held in Worcester on 12th August 2007 to allow for all GB teams to prepare for the World Championships in September 2007. Nigel Leigh, BDA National League Co-ordinator is currently pulling together next season's calendar of events; as soon as this is all confirmed we will get it published. |

A Call for all Helms to be Qualified [15/09/06] |

It will be a requirement from January 2007 that all helms must be registered as a minimum as a 'Basic Helm' if they wish to helm their crews at National League events. |
