All Over But the Shouting |

The bronze medal performance by the GB Under 18s proved to be the only medal winning performance rewarded with a medal. The surprise change of premier lanes from 3 and 4 to 1 and 6 after the competition on Saturday surprised the open crews who were next up on Sunday. The Senior Open had been looking forward to their opening heat in lane 1 but the late change of programme turned that into an up hill struggle in lane 5. Despite the frustration of the challenging water all the open crews raced well with major final qualification for the Premier Women and Senior Open and a convincing win in lane one for the Premier Open in their final race. The crews have now set their sights on Amsterdam, possibly another shallow but even course to contend with! |

The U18 mixed crew were ecstatic when they took bronze against a strong field in the 200m discipline on Friday. This early success was the prelude to more frustration with the race course for the other GB crews and a destiny of minor finals for the rest of the day. The Senior Mixed were next up to finish their day of racing with a third place behind Slovak Republic and Hungary. The Premier Open improved on their 1000m performance with a third place in their minor final of 6 crews. The Senior Open maintained their run of second place finishes with a full house in heat, semi and minor final, crashing through the field on the crest of a wave after stalling half way down the course. |

Day 2 of the World Championships are over for the GB crews in Prague. After the frustration of the lively water in the 2K which put paid to the Seniors hopes and did little for the efforts of the Premier Open yesterday the 1000m races proved to be just as challenging. A series of second places for the Senior Open were the prelude for a satisfying 5th place overall for the U18 mixed team and an impressive 4th place for the Premier Women. The Premier Open were pushed out to the tail race in the fierce sunshine that replaced the earlier fog. The poor visibility delayed the start of racing and made the rest period much shorter between races. The quick fire of heat, semi and minor final stretched the Senior Open squad who lost the ashes to Australia on this occasion by barely a quarter of a second. The U18 mixed team were only a tenth of a second off 4th place and within a split of only a second with third placed Germany. Less than a second kept the Premier Open out of the semi final and a possible major final place. |
