GB Senior Women Selection Time Trial - Updated

Steve Donohue, the BNTS Senior Women coach, sends the following invitation to ambitious women aged 40 and over on June 1st inviting them to the Great Britain Senior Women Dragon Boat Team Open Time Trial Day to be held at Hemel Hempstead Canoe Club on Saturday 13th June from 10.00am. Exeter National League Event

The league points for round 2 of the National League have been added to the league tables. Kingston Royals and Worcester Dragons have consolidated their positions at the top of the Premier and Standard leagues respectively.

Despite the lively weather conditions round 1 of the National League produced lots of exciting racing and an excellent start to this years league. Many thanks to the Officials and volunteers for a smooth running event. Amathus for hosting and all the competitors for taking part. Prescott's Pirates would also like to thank everyone for their warm greetings and best wishes as they embark on the Carnegie Challenge to cycle 1000miles in France, cross the channel in a dragonboat and run a half marathon to Wembley Stadium in time for the Challenge Cup Rugby League Final on 29th August.

The NFL Meets the Dragon

NFL linebacker Dhani Jones takes on the 2,000-year-old sport of dragon boat racing in Singapore. After a practice with members of Singapore's national team, Dhani gets an official seat with the American Dragons team in time for the country's biggest race event -- The Annual Singapore Dragon Boat Festival.

Change of National League Venue

Due to a clash of events the venue and date for the event on the weekend of 13-14th June has been changed. National League round 4 will now take place on Sunday 14th June at Stockton, Teesside.

The full league programme page will be updated accordingly.

The Executive Committee of the BDA was overhauled at the weekend with long standing chairman Mike Haslam moving upstairs to replace Andy Trotman as President and Jan Foster moving to the hot seat as our new Chairman. I'm sure we all wish Jan well and look forward to seeing her take the sport forward with her own ideas for the future. Sue Menzies will be supporting Jan as Vice Chairman. The committee also welcome new faces, Rosanna Lau as a director and Stuart Menzies and Jim Rossiter are co-opted to the committee.

2009 National League Calendar

Following the recent Congress the league dates for 2009 have been confirmed, as shown below.

A traditional start to the season in Liverpool, a return to Preston and a new venue hosted by Secklow 100 will add a little variety.

The World Championships in August are supported again with a break after the Worcester event which has been pulled forward to accomodate the earlier date and a few crews may venture to Hungary for the European Club Crew Championships in July.
