Day 2 of the World Championships are over for the GB crews in Prague. After the frustration of the lively water in the 2K which put paid to the Seniors hopes and did little for the efforts of the Premier Open yesterday the 1000m races proved to be just as challenging. A series of second places for the Senior Open were the prelude for a satisfying 5th place overall for the U18 mixed team and an impressive 4th place for the Premier Women. The Premier Open were pushed out to the tail race in the fierce sunshine that replaced the earlier fog. The poor visibility delayed the start of racing and made the rest period much shorter between races. The quick fire of heat, semi and minor final stretched the Senior Open squad who lost the ashes to Australia on this occasion by barely a quarter of a second. The U18 mixed team were only a tenth of a second off 4th place and within a split of only a second with third placed Germany. Less than a second kept the Premier Open out of the semi final and a possible major final place.
