Worcester Dragons Return Home [01/03/06] |
|
After 2 years away, Worcester Dragons return home to their beloved city.
After the disappointment of losing the tenancy of their local riverside clubhouse 2 years ago, Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club will paddle back to Worcester, the Faithful City, on Sunday, March 5th from their temporary home at Stourport Boat Club. The paddle of around 18km will be a welcome challenge for the participating club members who are really pleased to be bringing this unique sport back to the City of Worcester. Their return is the final phase in a staged approach to preparing the hard standing area and launch access, with a new gated entrance required.
The club will be based on a new storage area provided by Worcester County Cricket Club adjacent to the RNIB steps on Bromwich Parade, just downstream from the road bridge (immediately adjacent to their old clubhouse!). The club crew are due to finish their journey at 2:30 in the afternoon and anticipate a welcome party with representatives from Worcester Tourism Association who kindly awarded the club a grant to assist with the preparation of the site and creation of an access point. The club is also indebted to local businessman John Bennett who helped facilitate the provision of the riverside location. Local press and media have been invited to join the party to acknowledge this significant event for paddle sports in Worcester. |
