Thanks to the welcome cooperation of the local river sports association members we will be running the event this year from the frontage of the Rowing and Canoe Clubs.

Only vehicles towing trailers should use the Grandstand Road approach to the venue. No competitors are permitted to park in the Grandstand area and in no circumstances must anyone park vehicles in either the Rowing Club or more specifically the Canoe Club car parks. Vehicles using Grandstand Road to avoid the trip across the track could potentially delay the start of racing due to the nature of the approach along what is effectively a single track road with access by local river user traffic and parking.

All competitors must park on the centre racecourse hard standing that has fully recovered from the recent floods. The nearest post code for the entrance to the car park, which will be fully sign posted, is for Ostlers Restaurant, Severn Street, WR1 3EH.

The river access and approach from both clubs is to be kept free of crew camps and warm ups to avoid impeding normal canoe and rowing club member activities.

Facilities will be on the centre course area as usual and there will be refreshments served throughout the day starting with breakfast rolls and the usual BBQ fair with tea, coffee and cold drinks available behind the Grandstand building.

Dragon Boating Hits the Headlines
Wednesday, 01 August 2007

Well it takes a 'Royal' connection to at last get dragon boating on the front pages of the tabloid press. All of which is very positive for us as a sport.

Just in case there is any misunderstanding the very first crossing of the Channel was successfully achieved on 20th July 1997 by Amathus DBC. They raised over £20,000 for the Guide Dogs Appeal. Furthermore as part of the challenge they had 8 visually impaired paddlers involved in the two teams that went across. This particular crossing was also entered in the Guinness Book of Records. Visit http://www.bluedome.co.uk/WaterSports/acrosschannel/acrosschannel.html for further information.

With the forthcoming Crossing we wish the Sisterhood and Brotherhood all the best in their challenge and hope the weather holds up for a smooth journey.

Don't forget those bum pads!!

A Sad Loss to the Dragon Boating Community
Monday, 23 July 2007

It is with great regret that we announce the death of Tim Ward early on Monday 23rd July.

Tim was the former Chairman and Honorary member of Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club and a stalwart of the officials teams of the last few years.

Tim suffered a massive heart attack at the home in France that he shared with his wife Polly. This will come as a tremendous shock to all those who have known Tim for many years.

Some of you may not have met Tim, others will know him from a few of the recent events that he and Polly have supported as officials, Teesside and Bristol this year. Both Polly and Tim were due to be in Worcester for the Race the Dragon regatta in August and again for the National Cup in October. Their contribution to Dragon Boat racing at club level and also nationally and internationally with the Under 18s has been as great as any in the sport. Tim was an ambassador for the sport and the club, a great coach and team manager of the Under 18 BNTS, a father figure to some and a mentor to many as well as a friend to all.

The thoughts and sympathy of all who knew Tim are with Polly, his children and the rest of his family at this very sad time.

The funeral will be held in their new found home in France at 3PM on Thursday 26th July followed by cremation. A memorial service is planned for August in Worcestershire with all welcome. Details will be posted as soon as they are available.
