Sunday brought more success for the GB squad with bronze and silver medals for U18, Premier Women and the Senior Open crews. Tough competition for all crews, especially in the open division with new kids on the block putting in surprise performances to push the open crew down the order. Photos to follow soon. |

Day two of the European Championships and the 200m races for GB brought another brace of medals. Two colours again but the U18s taking silver and the Premier Women securing bronze after leading in qualification. Russia proved to be too strong in the major final taking another gold away from the clutches of Germany. Both Senior crews made major finals, via the rep for the mixed but straight through for the open crew meeting their coaches stance that 'we don't do reps!' after beating the Czech seniors by a fraction of a second in the heat. 0.7 seconds separated the gold and fourth positions in the major final with GB missing bronze by 0.2s. There was disappointment for the Premier Open crew in both the 2000m and 200m races. Fourth place in a disputed 2k result and missing the major final after drama in the semi final. Pool of Life completed the set of medals with a GOLD after a magnificent effort in their series of races with other Breast Cancer Survivor crews from Europe. This was the first European Championship outing for BCS crews - not just surviving! The 500m racing awaits in the sunshine tomorrow... |

The GB squad have won medals at all levels in the 2000m race on Friday in Sabaudia Italy. The U18s took first blood with a bronze place in the mixed race and later matched it with a bronze from the open crew, many of whom had already raced earlier. The Senior Open matched their efforts with a bronze following the inaugral 2k race for the Senior Mixed team who clocked a good time in more difficult conditions in the first race of the championships. The premier teams also tackled the race for the first time with the women taking a silver behind Russia after passing Italy coming off the first turn. The premier open results are yet to be announced but the GB team are expected to be in the medals. Another hot and sultry day awaits the teams as they face short sharp 200m races on Saturday. More soon... |
